Khan 13.7 of the Ashen Hand
Mythos spell: Ashen Hand
A classic spell for Call of Cthulhu.
Scribe the void, let my hand be the bridge
Stats
- Cost: 10 MP, 1d6 Sanity
- Casting Time: 10 minutes
- Participants: 1
Effect
In a cramped study lit by a single tallow candle, the caster scribbles a line that shifts mid-writing, each word revealing a memory they will trade. When the ink dries, a surge of strength courses through them, granting +5 to Strength and Constitution for 8 hours. The traded memory is erased, replaced by a lingering echo that feels like drifting smoke.
Consequences
Every use consumes one memory. The first loss feels like a faint ache; subsequent losses fragment the caster's sense of self, each causing 1d6 Sanity loss and a 20% chance of a permanent memory gap. If the caster uses the spell more than three times, they begin to doubt the integrity of their own thoughts, and the ritual's cost rises to 2d6 Sanity.
