Threshold Voice

Necromantic Invocation

A grim spell for Generic.

The house remembers the last words it heard. You need only ask it to speak them again.

Stats

  • Casting: Fifteen minutes of blood-marked symbols on every threshold
  • Range: One building, empty of the living
  • Duration: Until the last echo fades or a living soul crosses inside

Effect

You bind your voice to whatever words were last spoken within an empty structure—whether whispered confession, death rattle, or mundane farewell. The house itself becomes complicit witness. Only when someone observes or measures the building—walks its perimeter, counts its windows, sketches its floor plan—does the manifestation occur: every door, cabinet, and shutter in the place swings outward in unison, and the borrowed words pour from your throat in the original speaker's cadence. You cannot stop speaking until the message completes. The doors remain open, groaning on their hinges, until the final syllable passes.

Escalation

Mark the threshold symbols with your own blood instead of another's. Now the rite reaches backward through years rather than to the most recent utterance—you may specify how far back to listen, though you cannot know what you will find. The house reveals not just words but the emotional residue that clung to them: grief saturates the air as cold moisture, rage as sulfurous heat, love as the scent of flowers long dead. Every door in the structure opens outward with enough force to crack plaster and splinter frames. Those who witness the speaking must resist the compulsion to enter the now-open building, drawn by morbid fascination toward whatever history you've disturbed.
