Appearance

He stands gaunt, his shoulders hunched under a coat of fresh oil‑painted canvas that still smells of turpentine. His hands are scarred by years of delicate work, fingertips blackened with soot, and his eyes are a pale, haunted gray that flicker whenever ancient ironwork is mentioned. The shop’s fixtures—iron hinges and brass bolts—are two centuries old, their patina glinting beneath the new coat.

Backstory

Once the most sought‑after locksmith in Boston, he pried open vaults that were thought impenetrable. In a forgotten chapel, he wrested a lock bound with eldritch sigils, and the moment the tumblers fell, a whisper tore at his mind, costing him a fragment of sanity. He swore never to open another lock, for the price is paid when any soul admits the true cost of the secret they seek. He now guards the knowledge of that cursed lock, keeping the ancient fixtures sealed.

Hook

Rumors speak of a sealed crypt beneath the city, its door marked with the same sigils he once broke. He will aid any investigators willing to confess the price of opening it—“the cost is a memory of one’s deepest love.” Only then will he reveal the hidden key and the ritual to safely unseal the passage, lest the lock claim another mind.
