Description

The Umbrella Swarm is a stormborne menace of ownerless, black‑handled umbrellas that dance through the sky like a ravenous flock of black-winged insects. Each umbrella bears a single, unearthly glow—an oil‑lamp of a kind that never runs out of fuel, yet never emits electric spark. Legends say it was conjured by a disgruntled weaver in a desperate attempt to escape the cruel caprices of the weather. Now the swarm roams, following the path of tempests, feeding on the life‑energy of any who dare stand in its path. Only the one who set this wind‑bound legion free can halt its march, but such a person must first confront their own hubris. The umbrellas themselves are silent, but their collective presence turns any clear sky into a tempestuous maelstrom. Those who watch the sky at night swear that the single lantern of light burns in the center of the swarm, a beacon of its unending hunger.

Attacks & Special Powers

- **Whiplash of the Gossamer Canopy** (70% chance to strike, 2d10+2 damage, +1 Damage Bonus). The umbrella’s edge slices through armor like a blade of wind. - **Tempest Whip** (20% chance, 1d10+3 damage, +1 Build). The umbrella’s shaft lashes out, causing a sudden gust that can knock characters prone. - **Storm Pulse** (10% chance, 1d6+2 damage, 1d6 sanity loss). When the swarm converges, it releases a burst of lightning‑charged wind that can scorch flesh and fray sanity. - **Umbrella Convergence** (30% chance to create a localized whirlwind). Creatures within 20 ft suffer 1d6 damage and must succeed at a 60% Reflex save or be swept into the air. - **Unending Light** (The swarm’s single light does not require electricity; it persists as long as the storm does, providing a source of illumination that can be used to lure or mislead investigators.)
