Properties
**Luck Exchange.** When you take an action to shake the lantern and roll the three dice inside, each die that shows a 6 grants you 1 luck point. You can spend a luck point to gain advantage on one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw you make before the end of your next turn. Any unused luck points fade at the start of your next turn. **Memory Toll.** For each die that shows a 1, you must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or forget one detail about the current scene (chosen by the DM) as the magic extracts the memory to fuel the lantern’s glow. **Outward Swing.** Immediately after the dice are rolled, every door, gate, or portal within 30 feet of the lantern swings open outward, regardless of locks, bars, or magical hold. This effect lasts until the start of your next turn. **Fuel and Light.** The lantern’s glass is thick kiln‑fired, filled with a slow‑burning phosphor gel that emits a dim blue light in a 10‑foot radius. To keep the gel luminous, you must expose the lantern to a flame or heat source (such as a torch, campfire, or kiln) for 1 minute once per day; otherwise its light radius reduces to 5 feet until reheated.
Lore
Forged in the soot‑black workshops of a fjord‑side glassworks, Thrond Skvallr’s lantern was commissioned by a cabal of thieves who wished to tilt fate in their favor without leaving a trace. The phosphor gel was distilled from crushed glow‑worms and kiln‑heated sand, a recipe that binds light to memory. Each roll of the bone‑set dice extracts a fragment of the wielder’s recollection, paying the toll for a flicker of luck, while the enchanted frame forces every portal to yawn open — an ever‑present reminder that nothing stays shut when debt comes due.
