Morrow the Ferryman

Eternal Ferryman

A classic NPC for Generic.

"Pay the fare, lest the river claim you," he croaks, his voice as ragged as the reeds.

Stats

  • Role: River toll collector, bound to the vanished waters
  • Bond: He swears to the memory of the river’s spirit, promising to ferry souls across its forgotten current
  • Flaw: Oblivious to the passage of time, he still demands payment for a crossing that no longer exists

Appearance

Morrow wears a tattered, oilskin coat stained with ancient mud, and his boots are forever slick with phantom water. He cradles a cracked lantern that sputters a lone, non‑electric flame, casting trembling shadows on his gaunt, weather‑etched face.

Secret

The lantern’s flame is a captured fire sprite, bound to his service. The sprite knows the true source of the river’s curse, and can restore the water—but only if Morrow relinquishes his eternal toll.

Hook

Travelers seeking safe passage through the cursed marsh hear that Morrow’s toll can buy a single, guaranteed crossing, or that he guards a rusted key to an ancient vault beneath the former riverbed.
