Agnana's Painted Dice

Dice · 1920s

A whimsical magic item for Call of Cthulhu.

Roll, and let destiny tip the scales.

Stats

  • Origin: Agnana's Old Workshop, Marseille
  • Sanity Loss: 1/1d6
  • Malfunction: Risk of misrolling: 20% chance each roll

Description

The dice are six-sided, each face a vivid hue of crimson, emerald, azure, gold, silver, and black. They are fresh as a morning sunrise, the varnish still warm to the touch, yet their wooden edges creak as if whispering centuries of forgotten tales. The set sits on a battered table that has seen more revolutions than revolutions.

Powers

When a character rolls these dice, the difference between the total and the number 21 is added to the character's Luck skill for that action, but only if the dice are watched as they tumble. The effect is silent and sudden, like a wink from the universe. The dice also carry a latent malice: each roll has a 20% chance to misrepresent the outcome by +/-1 on a single die, once per use.

Price of Use

The use of the dice consumes 1/1d6 sanity, 10 silver pieces, and the promise of a favor to the owner when the next storm blows over Marseille.
