Memory of Might
9th-level Transmutation · Ritual
A classic spell for D&D 5e.
In the hush of forgotten thoughts, power awakens.
Stats
- Casting Time: 1 hour (ritual)
- Range: 30 feet
- Components: V, S, M (a vial of the target’s blood and a silvered hand‑mirror worth at least 500 gp, which is consumed)
- Duration: Concentration, up to 1 hour
Effect
Choose one creature you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC or the spell takes effect. You and the target each surrender a memory of comparable emotional significance (the DM determines the exact memory). The target loses that memory and suffers disadvantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws for the spell’s duration. You gain temporary hit points equal to the target’s Strength score × 5, and you treat the target’s Strength score as your own for any Strength‑based ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws while the spell persists. Additionally, you have advantage on any Strength‑based attack or check you make. The target’s Strength score is reduced by the same amount for the duration. The exchanged memories are permanent; the lost memory cannot be restored by magical means.
At Higher Levels
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 10th level or higher, the temporary hit points increase by 10 for each slot level above 9th, and the maximum concentration time extends by 10 minutes for each slot level above 9th.
