The Ashen Bell-Pull
Device · 1920s New England
A classic magic item for Call of Cthulhu.
Stats
- Origin: Recovered from the charred remains of the Harroway manor, burnt in 1919
- Sanity Loss: 1/1d4
- Malfunction: 10% chance per use that the bell-pull snaps, causing a loud clang and forcing a Luck roll to avoid attracting unseen attention
Description
A tarnished brass bell-pull, its cord fused with blackened ash, hangs limp on a wall that no longer stands. When grasped, the pull trembles as if someone on the other side is trying to summon aid.
Powers
When activated, the bell-pull causes every door within the current building to swing outward, regardless of locks or hinges, as if an unseen hand pushes them. The effect lasts for one minute per activation, after which the doors return to their normal state.
Price of Use
Each use drains 1 Magic Point from the wielder and inflicts 1 point of temporary Sanity loss (1/1d6) as the user hears faint, desperate screams from the fire that consumed the house. Repeated use risks drawing the attention of whatever entity caused the blaze.
