Kelmor the Loom-wrought

3rd-level Transmutation

A classic spell for D&D 5e.

‘Patience threads the wound into purpose,’ the archivist mutters.

Stats

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: Self
  • Components: V, S, M (a tuft of indigo‑dyed wool soaked in river water, the scent of a fulling shed)
  • Duration: 1 minute

Effect

**Storage.** When you take damage, you may use your reaction to invoke this spell, storing an amount of damage up to your proficiency bonus. The stored damage is held in a shimmering veil of wool‑scented energy and does not affect you. The marginal note in older ink records an alternate measurement: "Store up to twice proficiency‑bonus damage." **Release.** At the start of your next turn, you may choose a creature you can see within 30 feet and release the stored wound. The creature must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save it takes the stored damage plus 1d6 necrotic damage; on a successful save it takes half the stored damage plus 1d6 necrotic damage. If you do not release the stored wound before the spell ends, the energy dissipates harmlessly.

At Higher Levels

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the amount of damage you can store increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd, and the necrotic damage on release increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd.
