Cyllffrith

Mythos spell — Warm Return

A epic spell for Call of Cthulhu.

The earth remembers what we have taken.

Stats

  • Cost: 15 MP, 2d6 Sanity
  • Casting Time: 3 rounds
  • Participants: 1 caster, optional familiar

Effect

The caster intones an ancient Gaelic chant as the ground beneath the nearest livestock sighs, the hide of a cow shivering under a sudden, inexplicable heat. A warm wind spirals from the earth, carrying the stolen item from wherever it lies hidden and placing it in the hands of the person who most needs it, regardless of distance, as if the very soil had delivered its bounty.

Consequences

Each casting gnaws at the caster’s mind; sanity erodes by 1d6+1 each use, and the caster’s POW wanes by 1d4. The lingering warmth becomes a fever that seeps into the caster’s bones, and recurring summons draw nightmares of lost possessions, making sleep restless.

Deeper Magic

**Rainstorm Boost.** If the spell is cast while rain pelts the fields, the returned object also imparts a brief healing to any nearby sick livestock. **Moonlit Guard.** When invoked under a full moon, the item bears a faint protective aura that grants its holder a +10% bonus to resist curses for one week.
