Manteau d'Heureaux 1918
Artifact · 1920s
A classic magic item for Call of Cthulhu.
Silence is the last breath of those who never lived.
Stats
- Origin: A shattered French field hospital, November 1918
- Sanity Loss: 1/1d6
Description
The cloak is fashioned from a strange, ghostly fabric that seems to have been woven in the very hour before the final artillery strike that erased an entire battalion. Its threads are bound with a resin that smells of fresh pine, and the hems are brushed with fine sawdust, giving it a faint, dry rustle that never quite reaches the ear.
Powers
**Silence of the Fallen.** The wearer makes no sound while moving, even through armor or over rough ground; any attempt to hear them results in a failed Listen roll (−20%). **Echo of the Unseen.** While the cloak is worn, the wearer attracts the attention of unseen entities; each night spent in the cloak forces a Sanity check (DC 55) or the investigator loses 1d4 Sanity.
Price of Use
Each hour the cloak is worn, the wearer feels an oppressive weight of the dead’s unspoken regrets, costing 1 Sanity point per hour and a –10% penalty to any social skill as the aura of sorrow seeps into their demeanor.
