  • Type: Bell
  • Rarity: Common
  • Attunement: Not required
  • Charges: 1 (recharges 1/day)

Properties

The bell is a polished brass bell with a tiny flame carved on its rim. • 1 Charge. • While the bell’s charge is expended, all bodies of water within 30 feet of the bell do not hold reflections; the surface of the water behaves as if it were a mirrorless pond. This prevents any spell or effect that requires a reflective surface (such as Mirror Image or a water‑based illusion) from succeeding. Creatures attempting to use such a surface must roll a d20; on a result of 10 or higher the effect fails. • As an action, a creature may ring the bell, expending its charge. Until the end of the bell’s next turn, any creature within 30 feet that tries to cast a spell requiring a reflective surface or to gain advantage on a perception check against hidden foes must roll a d20; on a result of 10 or higher the spell or check fails. The bell can be rung only once per day.

Lore

The Bell of the Silent Flame was cast by Maribel the Tinkerer, a folk hero of Willow's End, when the great house on the hill burned down a century ago. She set the bell to remind all that even in ruin there is quiet, and that a single toll can silence the reflection of a flame. Whenever the bell rings, the surrounding waters refuse to mirror, as if the fire had erased its own echo and left only the hush of memory.
