Description
Activate the signet (1 action). Choose a written statement you know to be false and press the signet’s seal onto the paper. The statement becomes magically imbued with undeniable truth for 10 minutes. Any creature that reads the sealed statement must attempt a Will save (DC = 20 + your Charisma modifier). On a failure, the creature is convinced the statement is true and takes a –2 status penalty to Perception checks that would reveal its falsehood. In addition, all non‑magical water surfaces within 30 feet of the signet become perfectly still and cease to reflect light for the duration, granting anyone attempting to use the water’s surface as a mirror a –2 circumstance penalty to visual perception checks.
Lore
The Signet of Unreflected Truth was forged by the court magician of the sunken city of Miralith, where the palace’s fountains were said to reveal any deception. The signet’s alloy, a blend of silver and obsidian, was cooled in water that never reflected the sky, giving the seal its uncanny ability to expose falsehoods while rendering water mute.
Craft Requirements
Craft Wondrous Item, 1 day, 1,200 gp; must have the Craft (Wondrous Item) feat; a vial of still water taken from a mirror‑pool; a silver‑obsidian alloy (250 gp).
