The Sigh of the False North

Stats

• Casting: 1 minute, whispered word
• Range: 30 feet
• Duration: Until focus breaks or the target turns

Effect

For the spell’s span, the caster relinquishes their own bearings, adopting the target’s certainty as if it were their own. The caster can follow any direction the target points, but their inner compass blinks out. Observers are magically persuaded to accept the caster’s navigation as truth, though their memories may be warped. Reflective surfaces—water, mirrors—no longer mirror the caster’s path, shrouding it in a fog of doubt.

Escalation

If the caster pushes the spell harder, the loss of orientation deepens: the caster becomes utterly lost, wandering in circles until death. Every witness is forced into a state of absolute disbelief, their minds unraveling with paranoia. The world’s edges blur, and the caster’s footsteps echo with unseen dread.
