Description

A gentle wave of paper cranes unfurls across the damp cobblestones, their crisp edges catching the lamplight. The tide seems to pulse with a faint, polite hum, as if eager to learn the names of those who cross its path. Those who step too close find themselves surrounded by fluttering origami birds, which flit about, refusing to grant space to the living sky.

Attacks & Special Powers

Folded Shards (20% chance): The tide sends a sudden burst of razor‑thin crane wings, tripping a target and dealing 1d4+1 slashing damage. Paper Storm (10% chance): A sudden flurry of cranes descends, dealing 2d2 damage to all within a 5‑ft radius. Name Whisper (50% chance): When a creature speaks to the tide, it forces the target to utter a name aloud, causing 1/1d6 sanity loss if the name is unfamiliar.

Behavior

The Origami Tide is curious and polite, following those who offer their names. It will not attack unless provoked, and it will try to guide lost travelers to safe passages. However, if a creature attempts to cut or crush the tide, it will retaliate with the Paper Storm. Birds flock around it, and when they see a new name spoken, they chirp in delight, refusing the airspace above the tide out of reverence.
