Caeladh Ddarn the Unseen
Human Night-Train Conductor · Level 1
A grim NPC for Pathfinder 2e.
The price is paid when the ink dries, and the doors close.
Stats
- Role: Mysterious Guide
- Bond: The endless ledger of tickets he keeps
- Flaw: Cannot recall faces, making him distrustful of allies
Appearance
He wears a soot‑black coat threaded with thin silver runes, his hands forever stained with ink from the ledger he carries—a thick tome of parchment that smells of age and iron. The faint scent of paper and cold steel follows him, and his eyes flicker like a distant lantern, never quite settling on a face.
Secret
Hidden in the ledger’s back pages is a receipt for a journey never taken, signed in a trembling hand that is not his own. The signature belongs to the train’s former master, dead long before the night‑train ever ran, and the amount listed is a soul’s debt that can only be paid when a passenger confesses the true cost of their destination.
Hook
Rumors whisper that the receipt can release a captive spirit—or bind one forever. Adventurers who board the night‑train and learn the conductor’s name may be offered a single ride to a place no map shows, but only if they are willing to speak the price they have paid.
