Stats

  • Type: Wondrous item
  • Rarity: Uncommon
  • Attunement: Required (by a creature proficient in Medicine)
  • Charges: 3 (regains 1d4 each dawn)

Properties

**Healing Seal.** As an action, you may expend one charge to attempt a Healing Seal on a creature you can see within 30 feet. Choose a target; however, the kit instead heals the nearest creature other than the chosen one, if any. That creature regains hit points equal to 1d8 + your proficiency bonus. The chosen creature gains no benefit. **Winding Mechanism.** The lock must be wound clockwise for 1 minute before each use. While unwound, the kit cannot expend charges. **Curing the Origin.** The creature that first activated the kit can, as an action, make a DC 15 Wisdom (Medicine) check to close the misdirected healing. On a success, the kit’s remaining charges are restored to maximum and the misdirected healing effect ends.

Lore

Forged in the brass workshops of al‑Qasr in the year 1485, this lock‑shaped surgeon’s kit bears fresh vermilion paint over a surface mottled by two centuries of rust. Its clockwork internals are wound by a hand‑crank key, each turn echoing the heartbeat of the patient it was meant to save. Legends speak of a master healer who, in haste, sealed his own mistake within this lock, causing any wound it tended to find a different victim.

Curse

**Curse of the Misguided Healer.** While attuned, any time you cast a healing spell of 1st level or higher, roll a d6. On a 1, the spell’s healing is redirected to a random creature within 30 feet of the intended target, ignoring the original recipient. The initiator can end this curse by succeeding on the Curing the Origin check.
