A classic monster for Generic.
Tell me your name, and I will remember it.
Stats
- Threat: A living mausoleum that remembers every name spoken beneath its shell, its very breath turning the air to salt.
- Weak Point: The pulsing heart of its shell, exposed only when it speaks in names.
- Signs: A low, melodic hum of forgotten voices and the slow, steady thrum of a colossal heart beneath the ground.
Description
The Ebon Shell is a cathedral-sized tortoise that has swallowed an entire drowned village beneath its weathered shell. Its skin is a mosaic of barnacled stone, warm to the touch in a way that defies the chill of the surrounding sea. It has recently begun to ask for names, each uttered syllable echoing through the ruins it carries, as if the very act of naming breathes new life into the forgotten structures.
Signature Move
Name Resonance: By uttering the name of a fallen villager, the tortoise causes the shell to tremble, releasing a spectral tide that floods the ground with memories and the scent of salt and stone. Those who hear the name are compelled to either remember their past or become part of the shell's living archive.
Tactics
The Ebon Shell moves with deliberate slowness, luring adventurers with the promise of forgotten lore. When approached, it speaks names to coax curiosity, then uses the Name Resonance to either bind the party to its shell or to flood the area with the drowned village’s memories, disorienting foes. It avoids confrontation directly, preferring to trap enemies within the walls of the shell and then retreat, letting the weight of its shell crush any who follow.
